Donations / Sponsorship

On-line sponsorship & donations

You can now start to donate/sponsor us by clicking here (or the link below). We aren’t taking any money out of the sponsorship to cover our personal costs as we believe that those that give do so for the charity and not so that we get cash towards our personal achievement. The external link will take you to Just Giving’s web-site. It will allow you to make secure donations using your credit or debit card.

We would like to point out that Just Giving do charge Cancer Research UK a 5% transaction fee on all donations. We’ve discussed this at length with the charity and they’ve made it clear to us that this 5% is actually cheaper than what they can process our monies and records for themselves, so it’s preferable. If you are a UK tax payer then it’s essential that you provide your name and address so that Cancer Research UK can enjoy the extra money the Government will give them on top of your donation in tax relief.

Off-line sponsorship & donations

We understand that not everyone is comfortable submitting their personal details over the Internet so we’ve got some forms that you can complete in person when you see us wherever you normally see us and we’re also setting up a bank account so that we can take cheque or postal orders (in GBP£) via snail mail too. Please contact us for details.

Gift Aid

It is extremely important (for UK sponsors) to provide us with your full name and at home address when you sponsor us. The UK Government’s Inland Revenue taxes your donation at a rate of 28% unless you provide us with valid details and you tick the appropriate box to say you want your donation to be covered by Gift Aid. We do not do anything with these details other than pass them on to the charities’ financial department for tax relief claims. They are not allowed to contact you directly and your details will never be sold or used. We’re very serious about maintaining your privacy which is why our payment pages are secure.

A note about sponsorship

Given the size of the project we’re taking on, we’re sure you can all imagine what a nightmare it’s going to be to collect in the sponsorship after the event. People forget that they’d agreed to sponsor; sometimes you don’t see someone for long periods of time and folk move away and the contact details they give become invalid. This is why we’re asking you to pay at the time of sponsoring. We understand that some people might not be comfortable with this so we’re still operating a traditional sponsorship programme as well. It would help us immensely if you could part with your money when sponsoring.

Advertising

We would love for businesses (of any size) to sponsor us either financially towards our target or by donation of equipment for our task. In return for your sponsorship we’d place an advert on our web-site and mention you on our thanks and credits pages. To discuss this or find out more information please contact Rob.
